Nikolay Mladenov UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process arrived in the Gaza Strip on Monday morning through the Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing.
According to an official source Mladenov arrived in Gaza on a short visit to meet with officials from the Hamas Movement.
The UN official visited Gaza in the context of efforts being made by the UN Egypt and Qatar to alleviate the blockade on Gaza.
The Egyptian intelligence officials who were mediating between the Palestinian factions and Israel in the past few days have made progress toward reaching ceasefire understandings. The Palestinian factions in Gaza are now waiting for Israel’s response to their demands.
