UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov has hailed Hamas’s positive attitude and keenness on the success of the Palestinian elections.
Hamas said in a statement on Monday evening that the head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya met with Mladenov at his office in Gaza and together they discussed ways to end the Palestinian political division and make the elections a success.
According to the statement Mladenov has affirmed that the United Nations will play an important role to ensure the success of the elections.
“It is necessary to achieve a national consensus in all the upcoming steps in order to make sure that elections succeed and transparency is achieved” Mladenov said.
Haneyya re-confirmed Hamas’s readiness for the elections and welcomed the UN positive initiative.
