Almost 30 Palestinian women gather since the early morning hours in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip to bake copious quantities of Eid cakes which is one of the Strip’s rituals for celebrating the Eid al-Fitr.
Inside the tent of the “Mobaderoon Rafah” initiative a number of women gathered to work diligently and actively to make abundant quantities of Eid biscuits.
In Rafah city southern Gaza Strip women work like a beehive as part of the Mobaderoon charitable initiative to make the largest number of cake desserts. They start making cakes then wrap them up for distribution to poor families before Eid al-Fitr.
These female volunteers work in one place to achieve one goal which is to bring the joy of Eid to the low-income families in Rafah by preparing Eid sweets.
This initiative is named “Cakes of the Mobaderoon”. The women volunteers make about 500 kilograms of cakes for distribution.
Haroun Al-Mudallal the general coordinator of the Mobaderoon Rafah campaign said “Since the early morning hours about 50 volunteers began baking Eid biscuits. About 500 kilograms of cakes will be produced for impoverished families in the province.”
Mudallal explained to the PIC correspondent that this campaign aims to ease the burden of the families who cannot afford to bake these cakes in their homes let alone buying them from the market due to the difficult economic situation in the Gaza Strip.
He stated that the initiative which is in its second year in a row seeks to prepare 500 kilograms of cakes during the coming days until the Eid al-Fitr to bring smiles and pleasure to poor and needy homes indicating that the initiative is supported by the philanthropists and businessmen in Rafah.
The coordinator noted that the initiative comes as part of a series of initiatives and campaigns organized by the Mobaderoon Rafah before and during the blessed month of Ramadan.
Another campaign is “Tekiyat al-Mobaderoon” which aims to distribute food food baskets and financial aid to support the poor and impoverished families in the city.
Mudallal confirmed that the gathering was keen this year to increase the quantity due to poor living conditions especially with the corona pandemic and the ongoing lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
He pointed out that the activities of the Mobaderoon Rafah will not be limited to the month of Ramadan rather it will continue its charitable activities to serve the largest number of poor and needy families.
The Gaza Strip suffers from difficult economic conditions as poverty and unemployment rates in the Gaza Strip are very high.
Cakes are one of the most important desserts that are served in Palestine during the days of the Eid Al-Fitr.
