Dozens of Palestinian citizens and Fatah members participated in a march staged in Nablus city in protest at Palestinian Authority (PA) president Mahmoud Abbas’s decision to revoke the parliamentary immunity of five lawmakers from the Movement.
The participants including lawmakers marched from Balata refugee camp to al-Quds street in the city carrying Fatah flags and placards and chanting slogans condemning Abbas’s measure against the MPs.
In a speech during the rally MP Jamal al-Tirawi one of those lawmakers stripped of their immunity denounced some PA and Fatah leaders for launching a smear campaign against him and the other lawmakers.
Tirawi emphasized that the legitimacy of lawmakers comes from the Palestinian people who elected them and have the right alone to lift their immunity.
He affirmed that he and the other punished lawmakers would continue to serve the Palestinian people and fight the injustice that was done to them.
