Nassariya residents close road protest neglect of their area

Saturday 15-April-2017

Angry Citizens from al-Nassariya town north of the Jordan Valley on Saturday morning closed for the second consecutive day the main road that cuts through their town protesting the Palestinian government’s neglect of their area.

Eyewitnesses said local young men blocked the road at 08:00 am and announced that it would remain so until 11:00 am.

They added that the closure caused heavy traffic jams on both sides of the road which leads to Jericho and the Jordan Valley.

Last night young citizens torched tires on the same road accusing the Palestinian government of persistently neglecting the infrastructural needs of their area.

Local sources told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) on Friday that young men from the town closed its main road with burning tires and stones and chanted slogans against the ministry of local government.

According to the sources the local residents have been asking for many years the government to repair the road which is filled with big holes but the ministry of local government refuses to pay attention to their area.

The road closure was aimed mainly at pressuring the ministry to pave the road and carry out infrastructural projects in the area the sources noted.
