Ofer prisoners close all prison sections

Tuesday 3-August-2021

The Palestinian Commission for Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs reported on Tuesday that the prisoners closed the sections of the Israeli Ofer prison in protest against the brutal raids carried out by the Israeli prison forces in section N. 16 and the abuse of prisoners.

The authority stated in a statement that since Monday the leaders of the prisoner movement and its representatives in Ofer closed all departments and refused to leave their rooms adding that these protest steps will continue until the jailers’ attacks are stopped.

It pointed out that the child detainees were also attacked as eight of them were transferred from Megiddo prison to Ofer and they were beaten upon their arrival.

The Israeli prison service renewed on Monday the administrative detention of the minor Amal Nakhleh who suffers from difficult health conditions.

The authority held the Ofer prison administration fully responsible for the developments inside the prison.

In another development on Monday the Islamic Jihad prisoners set fire to room No. 12 in section 26 of the Negev Desert Prison.

Sheikh Khader Adnan an ex-prisoner and the leader of the prisoner movement said in a press statement that this step came as an expression of the prisoners’ denunciation of the barbaric attack of the jailers on four of the administrative prisoners who are on hunger strike.

He called on human rights and international institutions to intervene to follow up on the prisoners’ conditions and put pressure on Israel to stop the serious violations against them.
