Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Wasil Abu Yousuf on Saturday said that a meeting involving all Palestinian factions will soon be held in Cairo to form a national unity government and prepare for presidential and legislative elections.
Abu Yousuf said in an interview with Anadolu agency that allowing the Palestinian Authority (PA) government to assume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip is a step toward ending eleven years of internal division.
He pointed out that a meeting will be held between Hamas and Fatah movements in Cairo a week after the PA government undertakes its duties in Gaza and later it will be followed by another expanded meeting including all the Palestinian factions that signed the Cairo Agreement.
On the elections of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Abu Yousuf affirmed that consultations are ongoing with various Palestinian factions including Fatah and Hamas and continued “A comprehensive PNC session will be held once a national consensus to end the division between the West Bank and Gaza is reached.”
On 17th September Hamas Movement decided to dissolve the Gaza administrative committee in response to the Egyptian efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation.
The Movement then asked the Ramallah-based PA government to come to the Gaza Strip and assume its responsibilities.
