The Palestinian Forum in Britain’s annual Palestine Iftar is a social religious and cultural occasion where Palestinian families convene during the blessed month of Ramadan.
More than a thousand people gathered for the sixth annual iftar members of Britain’s Muslim and Arab communities were in attendance as well as various pro-Palestine supporters. Within attendance were Palestinian community leaders and other heads of solidarity organizations.
During the evening donations were collected for reconstruction projects for Palestinian refugee housing in the camps of Jordan. The program also included a special dish prepared by the well-known chef from Gaza City Abu Julia.
Later in the evening attendees partook in a Kahoots family completion for prizes for airline tickets offered by Royal Jordanian the questions were themed by cultural and national content. In the end the participants performed Tarawih prayers behind the well-known Egyptian reciter Sheikh Muhammad Jibril.
The president of the Palestinian Forum in Britain Zaher Birawi said that this Iftar seeks to affirm belonging to the homeland. Beyond that it hopes to express support for the steadfast people in the occupied lands as well as an opportunity to demonstrate the unity of the Palestinian nation.
He added “This evening was filled with the atmosphere of Palestine and the heritage of Palestine which expresses love for the homeland and reflects the state of hope for return and liberation.”
Adnan Hmidan Vice president of PFB and responsible for the activities department said: “This Iftar comes in its sixth edition after a two-year break due to the Corona pandemic to reunite the Palestinian family in exile.”
He continued: “On the other hand the interaction that takes place in this activity on the occasion of Ramadan the month of generosity and charity in the issue of donations is extremely important as the PFB coordinates with approved charitable institutions and tries to study what it has on the ground in the service of Palestinians inside and outside Palestine and this time this project was adopted for the largest Palestinian population gathering outside Palestine which is Jordan and the refugee camps there which number about 13.”
Donations went to repair the houses in these camps which depend on tin roofs for maintenance and restoration and within minutes the attendees were able to raise more than 40 thousand pounds for the restoration of a good number of houses for the benefit of these camps.
Overall the event was well attended and its themes sought to build solidarity and affirm the national consciousness of Palestinians in spite of their exile.
