PHROC: Israeli collective punishment tactics “war crimes”

Sunday 15-January-2017

The Council of Palestinian Human Rights Organizations (PHROC) raised alarm bells over the preplanned policies of collective punishment perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) against the Palestinian residents of Jabal al-Mukabir in Occupied Jerusalem.

PHROC said in a statement that the IOA revoked the residence permits of 12 members of the family of slain Fadi al-Qubur and handed out 81 demolition notifications in al-Qunbur neighborhood under the pretext of unlicensed building.

PHROC spoke out against the abrupt closure of the main access roads into Palestinian towns and villages dubbing such measures serious violations of the Geneva conventions.

PHROC slammed such retaliatory tactics opted for by the occupation authorities and attributed them to the security coordination with the Palestinian Authority (PA) forces.

PHROC harked back to the statements released by the Israeli Jerusalem mayor in which he announced his decision to embark on a collective punishment campaign against Palestinians living in Occupied Jerusalem following an anti-occupation attack carried out in October 2016.

PHROC called for immediately ceasing such policies of collective punishment against the Palestinian people urging the diplomatic envoys and international bodies operating in the occupied Palestinian territories to take urgent action so as to protect the Palestinians and impeach the Israeli occupation for its flagrant breaches of international humanitarian law which amount to war crimes.
