A number of parliament members from Fatah movement decided to participate in the emergency Palestinian legislative council session which will be held on Wednesday to discuss the formation of the constitutional court and the resolution of the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas to lift the immunity of a number of MPs.
The MP Ashraf Jumaa told the PIC reporter that 33 of Fatah MPs in Gaza the West Bank and abroad will participate in the emergency session for the first time since 2007 to discuss the legality of the constitutional court and lifting the immunity of a number of MPs.
The Parliament was suspended by the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas since 2007 and its sessions were banned in Ramallah city. Meanwhile Parliamentary sessions are held in Gaza regularly despite being boycotted by all Parliamentary blocs except the Change and Reform bloc which is affiliated with Hamas.
The Fatah MP thanked all the parliamentary blocs in general and the Change and Reform bloc in particular for accepting to attend the emergency session.
Abbas decided to lift the parliamentary immunity of 5 MPs on Monday 12th December 2016 in a move that violates the law which gives the Parliament only this right.
The leader in the Islamic Resistance movement Hamas MP Salah al-Bardawil said in a TV meeting on Tuesday “Law is what unites us and tomorrow’s session will not violate the law.”
The secretary of Hamas’s parliamentary bloc Mohammed al-Ghoul said in a press statement that Abbas’s decision is groundless and that “the coming days will witness a national session and other events and not just statements.”
