PPCS: 250 children deprived of enjoying Eid holiday in Israeli jails

Wednesday 5-June-2019

The Palestinian Prisoner Center for Studies (PPCS) has accused the Israeli prison service (IPS) of committing many violations against the Palestinian prisoners including children during the Eid holiday at the behest of the government.

Head of the Center Ra’fat Hamdouna said that the Israeli practices against the Palestinian prisoners during the Eid days violate international conventions and the international humanitarian law pertaining to their rights.

Hamdouna affirmed that hundreds of detained fathers and mothers are deprived of seeing their children and families during the Eid holiday and celebrating the occasion .
He also said that 250 children in Israeli jails are not allowed to see their parents have new clothes and enjoy moments of joy during the Eid occasion.

He called on international human rights groups to pressure Israel to abide by the Geneva conventions that call for respecting the prisoners’ rights to practice religious and celebratory activities in jails.
