Thursday 1-December-2022

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) has said that cancer-stricken prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid suffer from new life-threatening health complications.

In a statement on Wednesday PPS said that recent medical examinations showed that Abu Hamid’s body and his lungs are filled with fluids and that he cannot stay for two minutes without using an oxygen cylinder to breathe.

“The ongoing deterioration of his health is accelerating much more than the previous period and today he lives only on palliatives and painkillers after doctors decided to stop his chemotherapy” PPS pointed out.

According to a recent medical report Abu Hamid’s condition gets worse every day. He suffers from a sharp drop in weight uses an oxygen cylinder cannot speak normally and receives intravenous feeding after cancer has spread through his body

Despite Abu Hamid’s critical health condition and a medical report recommending his urgent release the Israeli occupation authority and its courts recently rejected multiple requests filed for an end to his detention.

A few months ago the prisoner suffered from a health problem in his lungs but the Israeli prison service delayed his transfer to hospital and medically neglected his issue before deciding to take him to the hospital.

Abu Hamid a 49-year-old from al-Am’ari refugee camp in Ramallah has been in jail since 2002 serving seven life sentences and an additional 50 years in prison. He has four brothers in jail who are also serving life sentences.
