Palestinian concerted efforts to free the BBC journalist

Friday 6-April-2007

GAZA (PIC)– A joint operations room of the PA security was setup with the aim of finding and freeing the kidnapped BBC journalist Allan Johnston according to PA government spokesman Dr. Ghazi Hamad.

Dr. Hamad also stated that the PA Interior Minister Hani Al-Qawasmi  will present his 100 day plan to end the state of security chaos in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip for approval on Saturday.

The British consul-general Mr. Richard Makepeace met on Thursday with the PA Prime Minister Mr. Ismail Haneyya at the Prime Minister’s office in Gaza City and discussed the measures to secure the release of the kidnapped journalist as well as the PA unity government and the international response to it.

PA President Mahmoud Abbas also met with government ministers and discussed with them ways to secure the release of the kidnapped journalist.

Allan Johnston has been kidnapped more than 3 weeks ago in Gaza City. The episode has caused the PA government and the Palestinian people great embarrassment. It is not clear who is holding him and whether his kidnappers aim for financial profit out of his kidnapping or they have a political agenda.
