The Palestinian prisoners held in Ofer prison decided to return their meals on Friday and Saturday in protest against their harsh detention conditions.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) affirmed that Ofer prisoners suffer from shortages in winter clothing blankets and lack of heating means despite the very cold weather.
Thus the prisoners decided to declare a set of protest steps started today by refusing meals for two days the PPS added.
Meanwhile about 500 administrative detainees continue their boycott of the Israeli occupation courts for the 84th day in a row in protest at the Israeli policy of administrative detention.
The boycott includes the initial hearings to uphold the administrative detention order as well as appeal hearings and later sessions at the Supreme Court.
Under the banner “Our decision is freedom” the 500 administrative detainees said in a statement on the first day of their boycott that their move comes as a continuation of long-standing Palestinian efforts “to put an end to the unjust administrative detention practiced against our people by the (Israeli) occupation authorities”.
This came amid growing calls for intensifying solidarity vigils and events in support of Palestinian prisoners’ protest steps.
4500 Palestinian prisoners are currently held in Israeli jails including 34 women 180 minors and about 500 administrative detainees.
