Palestinian prisoners prevented from Friday prayer for 2nd week

Saturday 19-February-2022

Palestinian prisoners staged a sit-in in Israeli jails after being denied their right to perform Friday prayers for the second consecutive week.

The prisoners have refused to step out of their cells for their allocated yard time.

Tension has been recently growing as Israeli prison administration continued to impose tight sanctions and restrictions on the prisoners including heavy fines.

The Captive Movement has earlier warned against the unprecedented level of repressive measures at Israeli-run prisons stating that Palestinian prisoners plan to escalate their protest steps over the next few days.

The Movement also said that Israeli authorities have reduced the duration of inmates’ outdoor time and the number of those allowed outdoors at the same time preventing Palestinian prisoners from meeting each other.

Palestinian prisoners have recently taken a series of actions against the recent restrictions that amounted to collective punishment.
