Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails decided on Thursday to suspend the mass open-ended hunger strike that was scheduled to start this evening after the Israeli prison administration met their demands to stop its repressive measures.
“Israeli prison administration decided to stop its oppressive policies against the Palestinian prisoners after it realized that the Palestinian detainees are ready to defend their rights at all costs” the Supreme National Emergency Committee of the National Captive Movement said in a press statement stressing that such an Israeli decision reflects the Captive Movement’s unity and harmony in Israeli prisons.
The Committee extended its thanks to the Palestinian people who supported the Palestinian prisoners during their protest steps against Israeli suppression hailing the prisoners’ endless patience and bravery while confronting the Israeli occupation.
Earlier this week thousands of Palestinian prisoners took part in a series of protests designed to highlight their ill-treatment including returning their meals and refusing to undergo security checks in addition to staging a hunger strike that was set to start today.
Around 5000 Palestinian prisoners including 27 women 175 children and 670 administrative detainees are held in Israeli jails according to institutions concerned with detainees’ affairs.
