Palestinian prisoners take drastic action against Israeli repression

Sunday 6-February-2022

The Palestinian Captive Movement in Israeli jails has decided to disband all its regulatory committees representing the prisoners after the Israeli prison service (IPS) reneged on understandings reached following the Gilboa prison break in September 2021.

According to Asra Media Office this step was taken in response to the escalation of repressive measures against the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails including new restrictions imposed on the daily outdoor time they spend in prison yards.

The Captive Movement’s decision will be effective as of Monday February 7 and will force Israeli jailers to deal with each prisoner individually.

The IPS has launched a large-scale punitive campaign against the Palestinian prisoners following the Gilboa jailbreak prompting the Captive Movement to take protest steps but later representatives of the prisoners in jails managed to reach understandings with Israeli jailers that responded to their demands at that time but reneged on them later.
