Palestinian women complain of abuse in Israeli jail

Wednesday 21-November-2018

Palestinian women held at Damon jail are being subjected to various forms of abuse and humiliation by the Israel Prison Service Mohjat al-Quds Foundation said on Wednesday.

The detained women in a letter sent to Mohjat al-Quds complained of the aggressive policies pursued against them on a daily basis and against their families during the scheduled visits.

According to the letter the women who have been recently transferred from Hasharon to Damon jail said that the Israel Prison Service still refuses to give them their personal belongings including photographs books and written letters.

The detained women in their letter said that the Jerusalemite detainee Israa Ja’abis is suffering from serious health complications and she is not receiving proper treatment although she needs an urgent surgery.

Ja’abis was arrested after she was severely injured in 2015 when a gas cylinder used in cooking exploded in the back seat of her car a few meters away from an Israeli military checkpoint. The Israeli occupation authorities accused her of attempting a car bomb attack.

Ja’abis was detained and transferred to Israeli jails without receiving proper treatment despite the fact that 60% of her body was burned and her fingers were amputated.

According to Palestinian sources Ja’abis needs to undergo at least five urgent surgeries before she could have a cosmetic surgery.

Mohjat al-Quds called on human rights organizations especially the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene and put an end to the suffering of Palestinian women in Israeli jails.
