Palestinians in the West Bank marked Palestinian Prisoner Day on April 17 by holding several events in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
A massive march in al-Khalil was organized on Monday afternoon in solidarity with the Palestinian detainees with popular and official participation.
The PIC reporter revealed that Palestinian factions along with school students workers and families of prisoners took part in the solidarity march and carried photos of detainees.
Speeches were delivered by families of prisoners and representatives of factions as well as official leaders. They called on legal and official authorities to intervene urgently for the support of the hunger striking detainees.
Meanwhile 30 students of Arab American University in Jenin announced going on hunger strike for three days in solidarity with the striking prisoners.
In Jenin governorate many similar events were carried out in al-Yamoun Jabaa Qabatya and other towns.
Directors of education directorates in Jenin and Qabatya: Tareq Alawneh and Mohammad Zakarneh respectively called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to shoulder its responsibility toward the Palestinian prisoners.
A central massive march was also organized in Jenin city where Palestinians raised photos of detainees and chanted supportive slogans for the striking captives.
The participants asked international and human rights institutions as well as the ICRC to immediately intervene in order to halt Israeli violations against Palestinian detainees and to improve their detention conditions.
Families of prisoners demanded supporting their imprisoned sons and hailed striking captives.
