Palestinian prisoner Abdullah al-Barghouthi a senior commander of al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas has entered day 4 of the hunger strike he staged to demand Israeli jailers to end his solitary confinement and allow him to receive visits.
His daughter Tala said that her father started his hunger strike in response to the Israeli prison service’s (IPS) persistence in isolating him and depriving him of receiving visits although his family obtained a visitor permit recently following long years of prohibition.
On May 31 the IPS transferred prisoner Barghouthi who is serving 67 life terms to an isolation cell in Ramon jail.
Barghouthi 50 is one of the most prominent prisoners who have challenged the Israeli solitary confinement policy for many years.
He was kidnapped by the Israeli occupation forces from al-Bireh City in the central West Bank on March 2003.
