Prisoner Abu Nawas in isolation for over two years

Thursday 7-July-2022

Palestinian prisoner Rabie Abu Nawas who was recently transferred to Gilboa jail has been held in solitary confinement for over two years.

According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) Abu Nawas’s family was allowed to visit him recently after it was barred from seeing him for three months.

Abu Nawas has been facing harsh incarceration conditions since his presence in solitary confinement while the Israeli prison service (IPS) transferred him repeatedly from one prison to another to deprive him of seeing his family.

He has also been exposed to systematic suppression since February 2020 when Israeli jailers brutally assaulted him and others in Ofer jail before he was locked up in an isolation cell.

Abu Nawas a father of three girls has been in detention since October 2019.

When he was transferred to solitary confinement two years ago he was on remand and expecting a court verdict sentencing him to several months in jail but after the IPS accused him of beating one of its jailers the Israeli prosecutor has been trying to extract a court ruling jailing him for 16 years.
