Prisoners of Ofer support hunger strikers

Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Ofer prison decided on Monday to start protest steps in support of the prisoners on hunger strike and rejecting the policy of medical neglect in Israeli prisons.

The Prisoners’ Club said that the prisoners of Ofer prison will return their daily meals on Monday supporting the hunger strikers and protesting against the occupation prisons administration’s continued implementation of the crime of medical negligence against the prisoner Iyad Harbiat.

The prisoner Jamal al-Taweel continues his hunger strike for the 26th consecutive day while prisoner Ghadanfar Abu Atwan has been on hunger strike for 55 days.

Um Abdullah Taweel’s wife confirmed that her husband will continue his hunger strike until achieving his demands namely ending his and his daughter Bushra’s administrative detention without trial or charge.

She pointed out that her husband lost about 15 kilograms in weight. He also suffers from headaches and severe dizziness.

Um Abdullah added that her daughter Bushra has a court hearing on 01/07/2021.

Meanwhile the prisoner Iyad Harbiat from al-Khalil is in a very critical condition in Soroka Hospital.

According to the doctors the prisoner Harbiat has been sleeping under the effects of drugs since the first day of his arrival at the hospital. He has been placed on ventilators and he suffers from the prevalence of bacteria in his body and reduced lung function.

Harbiat has been detained since 2002 and is sentenced to life imprisonment.
