Qasem: Russia is keen on promoting its relations with Hamas

Member of Hamas’s political bureau Hisham Qasem said that the Hamas leadership’s current visit to Russia aims to put the latter in the picture of the political developments regarding the Palestinian cause.

In press remarks to the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) on Monday Qasem affirmed that the Russian officials confirmed their keenness on developing their country’s relations with Hamas and listen to its opinions on the developments in the Palestinian and regional arenas.

Describing the visit as an “important milestone in the Movement’s foreign relations” the Hamas official said that this visit would take Hamas’s relations with Russia to another level of openness and growth and would support its position in the international arena.

“This visit derives its importance from the fact that Russia is a superpower which offers new proof to all parties that the Movement is not isolated as evidenced by its overt relations with Moscow” he said.

He expressed his Movement’s hope that its relations with Russia would constitute additional support for the efforts to end Israel’s siege on Gaza and curb its crimes against the Palestinian people.

Qasem underlined that Hamas considers its relations with such superpower in the world a “political breakthrough in the wall of its international relations” and “Russian recognition that Hamas is an influential party to the Palestinian cause.”

He pointed out that the Hamas delegation highlighted during its meetings with Russian officials the latest developments in the Palestinian arena most importantly with regard to Israel’s persistence in committing daily crimes against the Palestinian people across the occupied territories settlement expansion land grab daily arrests Judaization in Jerusalem the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and the blockade on Gaza.
