Qassam missiles still falling on Sderot despite IOF raids

Thursday 16-November-2006

Beit Hanun – The Qassam Brigades the armed wing of the Hamas Movement on Thursday fired two Qassam missiles at the Israeli Sderot settlement north of the Gaza Strip despite Israeli air raids aimed at deterring the firing of those missiles.

The armed wing said in a communiqué that its fighters launched the two missiles at 07.30 am (local time) and fired two mortar shells at a group of IOF armored vehicles east of Zaitun suburb in Gaza city.

The same armed wing said that it obtained the necessary technology to direct the rockets and accurately hit desired targets affirming that the missiles on Wednesday morning targeted the house of Israeli war minister Amir Peretz.

The missiles killed a woman and seriously wounded one of Peretz’s bodyguards who had both his legs amputated as a result of the explosion.

Last night the Israeli police said that two Palestinian rockets slammed into Sderot wounding three settlers one of whom critically and inflicted severe material damage to buildings.

The Hamas’ armed wing also took the credit for firing three homemade missiles Wednesday night at the southern city of Ashkelon which was occupied in 1948 and which groups a number of vital installations.

The Israeli police acknowledged the fall of four missiles on the coastal city of Ashkelon. The armed wing of the popular resistance committees had claimed responsibility for firing a missile at southern Ashkelon.

The mayor of Ashkelon held a meeting with local medical teams to evaluate the situation. He told the Hebrew daily Yedioth Ahronoth that the government of premier Ehud Olmert should start practical steps to stop the missile attacks from Gaza with all available means.

The Qassam Brigades meanwhile fired an RPG last night at a special IOF unit that attempted to storm a house east of Rafah city to the south of the Gaza Strip.
