A rally was staged on Monday by the Directorate of Education and Higher Education in the northern West Bank city of Nablus in solidarity with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The rally held outside the Directorate’s headquarters comes in response to the US decision to cut aid to the UN agency.
The Directorate’s staff members and representatives of national factions and NGOs were in attendance.
Education chief in Nablus Dr. Azmi Balawna called on all international bodies and institutions to take urgent action in response to the US biased decision which he said denies Palestinian refugees the right to basic humanitarian services guaranteed by international law.
For his part Nablus governor Akram Rajoub strongly condemned the US position vis-à-vis UNRWA which he said dovetails US attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause and deny Palestinians’ legitimate rights.
He added that the rights of the Palestinian refugees are a red line that can never be crossed saying an eternal solution to the crisis can only see the day when refugees return to their homeland from which they have been displaced.
