Raymond prison closed after two jailers infected with coronavirus

Tuesday 15-September-2020

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society confirmed that the administration of the Israeli Raymond prison closed all sections after it was confirmed that two jailers were infected with the coronavirus.

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) also blocked visits to prisoners which were scheduled for today and canceled all visits during the coming days.

The Prisoner Society said that the two jailers are the ones who are responsible for the transfer of prisoners to court sessions that are held via video inside Raymond prison.

The IOA informed the prisoners that the detainees who were transferred to the court during the past days will be tested for coronavirus on Tuesday.

The prisoners in Raymond informed the Society that the administration considered the prison an isolated area and prevented movement between the sections from which prisoners were taken to the courts until the results of the tests come back.

Muhammad Zaid the detainee from Qalqilya city was infected on Monday with the coronavirus and he has been detained since 9/10/2020 and with the infection of the prisoner Muhammad the number of prisoners who were infected with coronavirus reach thirty.

The prisoners’ institutions called on the international human rights institutions and the International Red Cross to shoulder their responsibilities in this dangerous development which requires double efforts and double pressures on the IOA to allow a neutral medical committee to oversee the results and samples of the prisoners.
