Refugees rally in Rafah over U.S. cut of its UNRWA aid

Monday 22-January-2018

Dozens of Palestinian refugees rallied on Sunday in Rafah city south of the blockaded Gaza Strip to protest the U.S. cut of its aid to UNRWA.

The rally-goers lifted banners condemning the non-humanitarian U.S. move.

Head of the Popular Refugee Committee in Rafah Ziad al-Sarfandi said the rally comes in response to the U.S. decision to curtail its aids to the U.N. agency for Palestine refugees.

“We the Palestinians have to join forces at such a critical stage in our history. Our people is going through hard times” al-Sarfandi said.

He warned of the ongoing conspiracies weaved against the Palestinian people and the simmering blackmailing carried out in an attempt to force the Palestinians to throw in the towel.

He vowed that the Palestinians will make every possible effort to face up to the emerging challenges and pressure by the pro-Israel U.S. administration.

Al-Sarfandi also condemned Trump’s recognition last month of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital saying the holy city will forever remain Palestine’s eternal and undivided capital.

The U.S. administration announced Tuesday its decision to withdraw 65 million U.S. dollars from UNRWA’s aid budget cutting medical and educational assistance to Palestinian refugees.
