Fierce armed clashes with Palestinian resistance fighters happened at dawn Saturday in Jenin City after an Israeli undercover unit stormed neighborhoods to carry out arrests.
According to local sources plain-clothes soldiers infiltrated aboard three Palestinian-plated vehicles into the neighborhoods of Bayader and Wadi Izzuddin in the city before their cover was exposed by local residents.
Eyewitnesses said the soldiers kidnaped a young man called Mahmoud Ja’far after ransacking his home in Wadi Izzuddin.
Soon later resistance fighters rushed to the area and exchanged fire with the undercover soldiers who called for military reinforcements to secure their withdrawal.
About two weeks ago three Palestinians were killed when Israeli special forces stormed Jenin City at night to arrest wanted citizens from al-Quds Brigades of Islamic Jihad without prior coordination with the Palestinian Authority (PA) intelligence apparatus.
The forces killed one citizen affiliated with al-Quds Brigades and two PA officers near the PA intelligence headquarters where the Israeli operation took place.
The operation was intended to assassinate or arrest Jamil al-Amouri and Wisam Abu Zaid both members of the Brigades. Amouri was shot dead and Abu Zaid was injured and detained by the infiltrating Israeli forces.
