Rivlin: We are working to return bodies of Goldin and Shaul

Sunday 5-March-2017

Reuven Rivlin the president of Israel said on Sunday that efforts are under way to return the bodies of the Israeli soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul held by the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip.

This came during a speech Rivlin delivered on Sunday in an event commemorating the memory of the missing Israeli soldiers.

Avigdor Lieberman the Israeli war minister said that the current Israeli government exerts every effort possible like all previous governments to find the missing soldiers and bury their bodies in Israel.

Israel launched a large-scale military offensive on the Gaza Strip on 7th July 2014 that lasted for 51 days and resulted in killing about 2200 Palestinian citizens and injuring 11000 others.

The Qassam Brigades the armed wing of Hamas Movement announced on 20th July 2014 capturing the Israeli soldier Oron Shaul during a resistance operation in al-Shuja’iyya neighborhood east of Gaza city. However the Israeli army announced him dead.

On 1st August 2014 the Israeli army announced that they lost contact with the officer Hadar Goldin in Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip. The Qassam Brigades announced then that they lost contact with a group of their fighters in the same place.

Hamas’s armed wing revealed in April 2016 that the Brigades are detaining 4 Israeli soldiers stressing that Israel will not get any information about them “without paying the price.”
