Sheikh Ekrema Sabri on Tuesday warned of the upshots of an Israeli tunnel being dug beneath the holy al-Aqsa Mosque.
Sabri’s warnings came as 73 Israeli settlers including three intelligence officers stormed the plazas of the holy al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Endowment Department said the Israeli police opened the Maghareba Gate at 7 a.m. to secure the break-in and closed it at 10:30 a.m.
On December 4 the Israeli police notified the Jerusalem Endowment Department of its decision to extend the temporal interval allocated for Israeli break-ins at at-Aqsa by one hour.
Head of the Supreme Islamic Commission Sheikh Ekrema Sabri warned of the upcoming inauguration of the underground road extending from Silwan to the holy al-Aqsa Mosque.
Speaking with the PIC Sheikh Sabri spoke out against Israeli intents to alter the status quo in Occupied Jerusalem dubbing such attempts barefaced violations of international law.
He added that the underground tunnel amounts to an aggression on the sanctity of the al-Aqsa Mosque and of Jerusalem’s inherently Islamic identity.
He further warned of cracks and collapses to rock Islamic sites and buildings as a result of the newly-excavated road.
Recently Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev revealed that a tunnel stretching underground from the southwestern corner of the Old City to al-Aqsa Mosque will be inaugurated during the upcoming Festival of Light.
