Seriously injured and still persecuted by the occupation

Tuesday 22-May-2018

Despite his critical injury in the head with a rubber bullet and the removal of parts of his skull the Israeli occupation forces are still persecuting injured Palestinian child Mohamed al-Tamimi 15 from the village of Nabi Saleh north of Ramallah.

On Sunday (20/5/2018) the fourth day in the holy month of Ramadan the Israeli occupation forces released child Mohamed after he was kidnapped for several hours from in front of his house in the village of Nabi Saleh northwest of Ramallah.

Interrogation despite injury
Anti-settlements activist Bilal al-Tamimi from the village of Nabi Saleh said in a press statement that the Israeli soldiers transferred Mohamed to one of their military sites to interrogate him and after they made sure that his health is still unstable they handed him over to the Palestinian liaison.

The child was shot by a rubber bullet fired by IOF soldiers following nearby confrontations in the village on December 15 2017 during a protest against the recognition of US President Donald Trump of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He was standing in the yard of his house outside of which confrontations took place.

Mohamed was playing soccer with his friends in their neighborhood in the village close to a checkpoint and a watchtower for the Israeli occupation army when a bullet almost took his life because it was fired from a very short distance hitting his face directly and settling near his brain.

A few minutes later the cousin of Mohamed child Ahd al-Tamimi appeared in a videotape slapping one of the Israeli occupation soldiers who was using her family’s yard to trap young men. Four days later the occupation forces arrested her and her mother Nariman al-Tamimi and cousin Nour al-Tamimi who was released about a month and a half ago while Ahed and her mother are still in prison.

Continuing persecution
As for the injury of Mohamed he underwent a surgery to remove the bullet and parts of the skull for his brain to function normally after its enlargement due to the injury. These skull parts were preserved at a temperature of minus 70 degrees. He later underwent a surgery to restore parts of the skull at a hospital in Ramallah on the fourth of March. His family hopes that Mohamed will return to normal life after the success of his surgery.

Despite Mohamed’s injury he was subjected to investigation by the occupation authorities during which an intelligence officer contacted his father Fadl al-Tamimi and told him that parents have a right to attend their kids’ interrogation sessions but he will not be allowed to do so because Mohamed and another child “constitute a threat to the security of the state.”

According to Mohamed he is afraid of being arrested at any moment to continue his interrogation by the occupation authorities as Israeli soldiers are stationed at the military watchtower a few meters away from the Nabi Saleh village and they enter and leave the village all the time.
