Sinwar meets UNRWA Deputy Commissioner-General

Yahya Sinwar Hamas chief in Gaza met in his office on Wednesday evening Lenny Stenseth the Deputy Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and discussed with her the negative repercussions of the statements of the UNRWA Director-General in the Gaza Strip Matthias Shmale to an Israeli channel during which he justified the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The two parties also discussed the actions of the Deputy Director of Agency Operations in the sector Mr. David Diebold which provoked great anger among all the people of the Strip and its political and societal components.

Sinwar expressed the Palestinians’ pride at having a positive and constructive relationship with UNRWA and the historical role it played in strengthening the steadfastness of the people and establishing their rights.

He also stressed the Movement’s keenness to continue cooperation with UNRWA and facilitate its mission especially after the recent brutal Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

For her part Stenseth affirmed her understanding of the intense anger of all Palestinians and that Shmale’s statements cannot be defended in any way stressing her solidarity and offering her condolences to all Palestinians on behalf of the Agency.

She stressed the importance of continuing cooperation with everyone in order to continue UNRWA’s work as she and the Agency’s General Commissioner have been working on helping the refugees in particular and the Palestinian people in general.

Stenseth also thanked Sinwar for his positivity and desire to continue cooperation in facilitating the Agency’s work in the Gaza Strip especially in these difficult circumstances.
