Sit-in outside Damon jail in solidarity with female prisoners

A sit-in was staged on Wednesday in the 1948 occupied lands (Israel) in solidarity with the Palestinian women detained in Damon jail.

The solidarity sit-in was organized by the Freedoms Committee of the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel outside the jail which at the foot of the Carmel forests in Haifa.

In a speech before a crowd of citizens Sheikh Kamal Khatib head of the Freedoms Committee hailed the Palestinian men and women in Israeli jails as “a crown on the heads of the Palestinian people.”

“We have come to Damon jails to express solidarity with about 60 female prisoners being held in harsh conditions” Sheikh Khatib said accusing the prison administration of bargaining with the prisoners over their positions.

For his part head of the High Follow-up Committee Mohamed Baraka called for bringing the issue of the Palestinian prisoners especially the detained women to the fore and placing it high on the agenda.

Baraka pointed to the presence of mothers and minors in Damon jail suffering from difficult incarceration conditions calling for paying attention to their issue.
