Six Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails continued their hunger strike in protest at the Israeli policy of administrative detention despite their critical health situation rights sources affirmed Friday.
Prisoner Kayed al-Fasfous from Dura town in al-Khalil is considered the longest hunger striker as he has been on hunger strike for 115 days.
The other hunger-striking administrative detainees are Miqdad al-Qawasmeh Alaa al-Araj Hisham Abu Hawash Ayyad al-Harimi and Louay al-Ashqar. They have been on hunger strike for 108 90 81 46 and 28 days respectively.
Earlier Thursday the Israeli military prosecution office has informed the lawyer of the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) of its intent to extend the administrative detention of prisoner Miqdad al-Qawasmeh who has been on hunger strike for 106 days.
PPS said that the military prosecution claimed that there were medical reports showing an improvement in the health condition of hunger striker Qawasmeh.
PPS lawyer Jawad Bolus held the Israeli prosecution fully responsible for the consequences of such a step and called for referring to previous medical reports issued by the Israeli Kaplan Hospital which confirmed that Qawasmeh was facing possible death.
Qawasmeh has been in administrative detention with no trial or indictment since last January.
Meanwhile the prisoner Rateb Hreibat has been on hunger strike for 28 days in solidarity with the striking prisoners.
There are around 4650 Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons including 550 sick detainees ten of them suffer cancer.
