Taweel continues his hunger strike for 24th day

Saturday 26-June-2021

Sheikh Jamal Al-Taweel one of Hamas leaders continues his hunger strike in Israeli jails for the 24th consecutive day Saturday in protest against his continued administrative detention without charge or trial and that of his daughter.

Taweel’s family previously said that he suffers from headaches and severe dizziness as a result of his continuing hunger strike. He has lost 13 kilograms of weight as he only drinks water and refuses to take supplements.

Taweel 59 rejects the Israeli occupation’s decision to extend the detention of his daughter for another three months.

He was arrested on 02/06/2021 after Israeli special forces stormed and searched his house. He was taken to Ofer prison and then to Hasharon prison after the Israeli Ofer Military Court ordered his administrative detention for six months.

His daughter Bushra was arrested on 09/11/2020 while she was passing through a military checkpoint and the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) decided to hold her in administrative detention for 4 months.

Before the end of Bushra’s first detention period the IOA renewed on 07/03/2021 the administrative detention order for another 4 months subject to indefinite renewal.

Taweel spent a total of 14 years in the Israeli prisons and his wife was arrested on February 8 2010 and released on February 1 2011. He is one of the candidates in the “Jerusalem unites us” list.

There are two other prisoners who are on hunger strike in the IOA prisons rejecting their administrative detention Ghadanfar Abu Atwan for the 54th day and Munif Abu Atwan for the third day.
