Tension has been running high across occupied Jerusalem on Thursday after dozens of Israeli settlers broke into the Aqsa Mosque and policemen cracked down on the peaceful Muslim worshipers.
Public relations chief at the Islamic Awqaf Department Firas al-Dabes said tension burst out shortly after extremist Israelis showed up at the site and performed sacrilegious rituals.
Israeli policemen came down heavily on the Muslim guards and worshipers in the plazas of the holy site.
The Israeli cops closed off the Maghareba Gate after 142 settlers stormed the site during the morning break-in shift. Dozens more are slated to defile the site following noon prayers.
In August alone 2400 Israeli settlers stormed Jerusalem’s Aqsa Mosque—the third holiest site in Islam.
