The Israeli police on Tuesday threw a cordon around the Marwani prayer hall in al-Aqsa Mosque as dozens of Jewish settlers broke into the site.
The Palestinian worshipers who were in the prayer hall protested the provocative break-in and threw empty bottles at the police officers.
Eyewitnesses said that the police withdrew after a number of intelligence officers took photos of the area.
