The Palestinian Prisoner Society said that tension prevailed in Ashkelon jail on Sunday as the prisoners protested the arbitrary transfer of their representative Naser Abu Hmeid to another prison.
The Palestinian Prisoner Society said that the Israel Prison Service has stepped up its aggressive policies against Palestinian detainees in Ashkelon jail.
On 29 April it added the Israel prison guards assaulted Ashkelon detainees and wreaked havoc on their prison rooms. The Israel Prison Service further imposed a 500-NIS fine on every prisoner.
Of the 46 Palestinians held in Ashkelon jail 24 detainees on that day received orders depriving them of family visits.
