Three Palestinian prisoners have been on hunger strike for different periods in solidarity with five hunger-striking administrative detainees.
According to informed sources the three hunger strikers are Rateb Abdul-Latif Husam al-Qawasmi and Abdul-Aziz Mar’iee. They have been on hunger strike for 38 11 and 6 days respectively.
The five hunger-striking administrative detainees are Kayed al-Fasfous (124 days) Alaa al-Araj (100 days) Hisham Abu Hawash (91 days) Ayyad al- Harimi (54 days) and Louay al-Ashqar (36 days).
Most of these administrative detainees especially Fasfous suffer from life-threatening health issues due to their protracted hunger strike according to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs.
Another prisoner called Ameen Shuweiki has been refusing to take his diabetes medication for the 57th day running in protest at his administrative detention.
Four other sick prisoners have also stopped taking their medications for about 60 days to protest their administrative detention. They are Ayed Dudeen Ahmed Abu Sundus Yaser Badrasawi and Yousef Qazzaz.
Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against the Palestinians solely at the pretext that a person might be planning to commit a future offense. It has no time limit and it is based on alleged secret files.
