Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has congratulated Hamas political bureau chairman Ismail Haneyya over electing him as head of the Hamas Movement.
Çavuşoğlu in a phone contact also conveyed the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s congratulations to Haneyya and the Hamas Movement.
He affirmed Ankara’s support for the Palestinian people and their just cause hailing at the same time the democratic process in Hamas and its latest political document.
For his part Haneyya thanked the Turkish top diplomat for the contact affirming the fraternal relations between the Palestinian people and Turkey.
Haneyya briefed Çavuşoğlu on latest Palestinian developments and underlined that the Movement’s political document would serve as the basis for its future endeavor.
Meanwhile the Hamas leader made telephone contacts with families of leading hunger-striking prisoners in Israeli jails and expressed his full solidarity with and support for the prisoners and their just demands.
