The Palestinian Authority (PA) has warned of any Israeli move to annex settlements in the occupied territories of the West Bank and Jerusalem saying such step would torpedo all efforts to salvage the peace process.
PA spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh made his remarks on Monday in response to Israel’s current attempt to receive the green light from the US administration for its intent to enact a law allowing it to impose its sovereignty over illegal settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
“Any unilateral step to impose Israel’s sovereignty over the settlements will only result in more tension and instability” Abu Rudeineh stated.
“We warn that such steps if implemented will eliminate any chance for international efforts to save the peace process” he added.
He also stressed that “no party has the right to talk about the disposition of the Palestinian territories as it violates all international resolutions.”
Earlier on the same day Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu said that he initiated contacts with the US administration to convince it to support the intended settlement annexation legislation.
