Israel works to change the demographic features of Occupied Jerusalem

Friday 1-September-2023

The Israeli occupation invests its governmental security and judicial arms to impose a demographic change in Occupied Jerusalem by bringing thousands of Jewish settlers into the occupied city and creating a new Israeli character for the city.

The Israeli authorities also expelled many Palestinians from the city as part of such an endeavor.

One of the most dangerous measures taken by the Israeli authorities in this regard is the new five-year plan which aims to bolster its influence over occupied east Jerusalem.

According to a statement released by the Israeli authorities a budget of 3.2 billion Israeli shekels ($843 million) has been earmarked for investment in east Jerusalem between 2024 and 2028.

The statement said the objective of this initiative is to allegedly address social inequality and promote economic development in east Jerusalem.

Regarding the plan Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “the decision will change the face of Jerusalem.”

The Jerusalemite ex-prisoner Shuaib Abu Sneineh confirmed that the five-year plan approved by the Israeli government seeks to Judaize the holy city and bring thousands of settlers to occupied east Jerusalem.

Speaking to the PIC reporter Abu Sneineh stressed that the occupied city of Jerusalem will continue to alienate the current and coming settlers.

He stated that 11000 settlers were brought to Occupied Jerusalem in 2018 while 18000 Jewish settlers left the city in the same year.

Jerusalem will remain the Palestinian capital over time he added.
For his part the head of the Research and Information Department at the International Jerusalem Foundation Hisham Yacoub affirmed that the Israeli plan will not affect the steadfastness of the people of Jerusalem and their adherence to their national constants.

He told the PIC reporter that the previous five-year plan declared in 2018 and the new five-year plan come to tighten the Israeli control over the city.

Along the same line the researcher in Jerusalem affairs and member of the Silwan Lands Defense Committee Fakhri Abu Diab stated that Israeli efforts continue to change the demographics of Occupied Jerusalem and enforce a false history on it.
