The Hamas Movement has welcomed the Portuguese parliament’s vote in favor of a resolution recognizing the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe) and applauding the Palestinian struggle against the Israeli occupation.
In press remarks on Saturday senior Hamas official Basem Naim described the resolution as a &ldquonew victory for the Palestinian people&rdquo pointing to similar resolutions issued previously by other European parliaments.
&ldquoWe look forward to seeing the governments of these countries reflecting the voice of their peoples and taking the necessary steps and measures to support the Palestinian rights and help our people end the occupation and achieve freedom and independence&rdquo Naim said.
&ldquoThe Palestinian cause is going through a very critical stage with the fascist right wing taking control of the Zionist government and attempting to resolve the conflict in their own interest and obliterating the Palestinian rights especially the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state” he added.
The Portuguese parliament recognized on Friday the Palestinian Nakba the occupation of Palestine that took place in 1948.
The resolution also applauded by majority vote the Palestinian people’s struggle for their right to self-determination.
