The Hamas Movement has strongly denounced ultra-Orthodox Jewish settlers for spitting on Christian worshipers in the Old City of Jerusalem as they were trying to walk to their church on Monday.
In a statement on Wednesday Hamas said that &ldquosuch a behavior and the official justification [by Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir for the incident] have reflected the occupation state’s racism and its contempt for others&rsquo religions and freedom of worship.&rdquo
Hamas affirmed that such settler practices are part of the racist and repressive policy pursued by the Israeli occupation government against Christians and their right to hold their rituals and celebrations.
&ldquoWe reject and condemn this shameless behavior and we affirm that all the racist [Israeli] practices against our Muslim and Christian compatriots and their holy sites come within the framework of the fascist Israeli government’s feverish efforts to Judaize the holy city.&rdquo
The Movement called on the international community to take immediate action to curb Israel’s violations against the Palestinian people and their holy sites and urged the world’s churches to boycott the occupation state.
A video circulated recently on the internet showed extremist Jewish settlers spitting on the ground beside a procession of Christian worshipers carrying a wooden cross in the Old City of Jerusalem. The incident has ignited intense outrage and a flurry of condemnation across the occupied Palestinian territories.
