Aqsa preacher: Nakba is ongoing

Sunday 17-May-2020

Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and preacher of al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Mohammed Hussein on Friday said that the Nakba is an ongoing process with different forms and an aim to completely eliminate the Palestinian presence.

This was voiced during the Friday sermon at al-Aqsa Mosque which marked the 72nd anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba.

Sheikh Hussein in his sermon spoke about the Nakba and how the Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their towns and villages to make way for the establishment of Israel stressing that the Nakba has not stopped even for one day since 1948.

The Friday prayer was attended by a small number of sheikhs and imams due to the closure imposed on al-Aqsa Mosques and other mosques in Jerusalem because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Adhans (calls for prayer) are called normally but prayers are held in the presence of a small group of Aqsa guards and Islamic Awqaf employees.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health 117 coronavirus cases have been detected in Occupied Jerusalem since the start of the crisis.
