The director of the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies Riad al-Ashqar said on Sunday that more than one million Palestinians were detained by the Israel since the Nakba in 1948.
Ashqar said that the Palestinian prisoners’ issue is one of the core issues of the Palestinian cause. He added that Palestinian prisoners are subjected to severe physical and psychological torture during the arrest in interrogation centers and in jails.
“Israel prison administrations have been committing brutal crimes against Palestinian prisoners including women children elderlies deputies and patients on regular basis” Ashqar affirmed.
He underlined that over the past decades 228 Palestinian prisoners were killed due to the Israeli practices topped by torture and medical neglect.
About 4700 Palestinian prisoners are currently held in Israeli jails distributed among 23 prisons and detention centers including 32 women 170 children 700 patients and 600 administrative detainees.
