The European Union (EU) has said that the conditions are not favorable for recognizing an independent Palestinian state collectively by its members.
EU media representative in Palestine Shadi Othman stated that the recognition of the Palestinian state is a sovereign decision that could be taken separately by each member state according to its own policies.
Othman told Quds Press that there were no talks about a new European position on the recognition of the Palestinian state but he did not deny the presence of attempts by the Palestinian side to convince some EU members to recognize the Palestinian state.
He reiterated the EU states’ rejection of the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital stressing that none of the member states would move its embassies to Jerusalem “which is an occupied territory like the West Bank.”
