HRW accuses Israel of apparent war crimes in Gaza aggression

Tuesday 27-July-2021

Human Rights Watch (HRW) confirmed on Tuesday that the Israeli occupation army carried out terrorist attacks during its war on the Gaza Strip in May 2021 in which it “apparently amounts to war crimes.”

HRW focused on investigating three Israeli raids that killed 62 Palestinian civilians and “there were no evident military targets in the vicinity” of the attacks.

Gerry Simpson associated crisis and conflict director at HRW added “Israeli forces carried out attacks in Gaza in May that devastated entire families without any apparent military target nearby.”

He pointed out that the continued absence of the Israeli desire to seriously investigate the alleged war crimes highlights the importance of conducting an investigation by the International Criminal Court.

The investigation looked at a May 10 missile attack that killed eight citizens including six children near the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun.

Another attack it investigated occurred on May 15 in which an Israeli air raid destroyed a three-storey building in Gaza’s Shati refugee camp. The attack killed 10 people two women and eight children.

The third attack was on May 16 involved a series of attacks on al-Wahda Street and lasted for four minutes. The air raids destroyed three apartment buildings and killed a total of 44 civilians.

Meanwhile the international report also accuses the Palestinian factions in Gaza of launching rockets to repel Israeli aggression.

For its part Hamas Movement demanded that the Israeli entity be held accountable and that its leaders be prosecuted and brought to international courts.

Dr. Basem Naim a member of the International Relations Office of Hamas Movement said in a press statement that the HRW report confirms that Israel acts as an entity above the law with absolute American support.

He meanwhile underlined that Palestinians are exercising their legitimate right to resist occupation within the framework of international law and with the available capabilities they have.

“The resistance has shown its constant keenness to avoid targeting civilians despite all the massacres committed by the enemy against our children and women even as entire families were expunged from civil records” Naim concluded.
