Israel to impose Jewish holiday closures on W. Bank and Gaza

Tuesday 4-October-2022

The Israeli occupation state intends to impose as of Tuesday evening complete closures on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip as well as Israeli areas for Yom Kippur (day of atonement) — the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.

The Jewish holiday closures will be taking place as Palestinian resistance operations have grown in number recently in response to the escalating violations and crimes in the occupied territories which are committed on a daily basis by the Israeli occupation forces and extremist Jewish settlers.

The Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom said that the Israeli army would impose a closure on the West Bank starting from Tuesday evening and would not allow Palestinian workers to reach their workplaces in Israel.

Gaza crossings will also be closed during the Jewish holiday.

According to different Hebrew media outlets all the holiday closures will be lifted consecutively on Wednesday and Thursday except for the road closures already imposed in the West Bank for security reasons.

The Times of Israel website said that all flights in and out of Ben Gurion airport and Israel’s airspace will be closed as of Tuesday afternoon as Jewish Israelis mark Yom Kippur adding that flights would resume on Wednesday evening.

As sunset approaches Tuesday all Israeli radio and television broadcasts will gradually fall silent while public transport will also come to a halt with buses and trains stopping their routes until after the Jewish fasting day. Inner-city buses and inter-city transport will gradually restart Wednesday evening according to the same website.

According to Israel’s Channel 13 26 military battalions will receive reinforcement over Yom Kippur and thousands of Israeli soldiers will be deployed in the West Bank and Jerusalem and along the separation walls.

In separate incidents clashes reportedly broke out between Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers last night and on Tuesday morning in different West Bank areas. Resistance fighters also opened fire anew at an Israeli military checkpoint in Nablus.

According to Palestinian local sources resistance fighters from the Arin al-Osoud (Lions’ Den) armed group opened fire at a military checkpoint near Beit Furik town in eastern Nablus.

Multiple Palestinian shooting operations against Israeli targets also happened in the West Bank on Monday evening and later at night.

Meanwhile local sources reported that Palestinian youths clashed in the morning with the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) near the Beit Furik checkpoint in eastern Nablus without providing further details.

Later in the morning the IOF closed its checkpoints around Nablus City especially those near Huwara and Beit Furik towns and allowed extremist Jewish settlers to rally in large numbers in southern Nablus.

A horde of settlers escorted by soldiers reportedly launched a stone-throwing attack on the high school of Huwara town in Nablus in the morning and assaulted its students while Palestinian youths hurled stones at a bus carrying Israeli soldiers in the same town.

Last night dozens of Palestinian citizens suffered different injuries during skirmishes with the IOF at the main entrance of Beita town in southern Nablus.

The Red Crescent said that at least 30 citizens were injured during the clashes with the IOF near Beita town pointing out that 25 of them suffered from their exposure to tear gas and two others from rubber bullet injuries.

In al-Khalil one Israeli soldier was injured in his head during overnight clashes with the IOF in al-Arroub refugee camp.
