Two Palestinian prisoners continue hunger strike

The two Palestinian detainees Raed Rayan and Khalil Awawda continued on Monday their open hunger strike in protest against their renewed administrative detention amid serious health deterioration.

Raed Rayan 28 who is currently held in Ramla prison clinic amid very difficult detention and health conditions enters day 103 of hunger strike.

Ryan has been suffering from severe weight loss dizziness vomiting and severe pains all over his body.

Rayan was arrested on December 3 2021 and soon later an Israeli military court ordered his detention administratively for six months.

For his part Khalil Awawda has continued his renewed hunger strike for 17 days which he resumed after Israeli jailers reneged on their pledges to release him and extended his detention for an additional four months.

Awawda a 40-year-old from Idhna town in al-Khalil suspended his previous hunger strike which lasted for 111 days on June 21 after he received pledges to end his administrative detention.

Palestinian prisoner Khalil Awawda 40 continues his hunger strike for the 80th day and the prisoner Raed Rayan 27 for the 45th day rejecting their administrative detention.

The Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs had recently warned of the deteriorating health condition of the hunger striker Awawda who is currently held in Ramla prison clinic.

The Commission confirmed that Awawda suffers from a severe deterioration in his health: chest pains vomiting a significant lack of fluids blurred vision severe fatigue in addition to irregular heartbeat and breathing and he cannot move except in a wheelchair.

Awawda was frequently moved to Israeli hospitals for medical tests. But he did not undergo any of them under flimsy pretexts as part of the Israeli policy to press for an end to his strike.

Rayan for his part suffers from pain in the head and joints stomach problems elevated eye pressure severe fatigue constant vomiting and moves in a wheelchair.

The two Palestinian prisoners Khalil Awawdeh 40 and Ra’ed al-Rayan 28 have entered day 72 and day 37 respectively of their hunger strike in protest against their administrative detention in Israeli jails.

According to the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) Awawdeh’s health situation has further deteriorated as Israeli authorities continue to refuse to end his illegal administrative detention.

The Israeli administration of Ramla jail recently transferred Awawdeh 40 to a civilian hospital after a sharp decline in his health condition before taking him back later to the jail.

As a result of his protracted hunger strike Awawdeh suffers from a persistent headache joint pains emaciation extreme fatigue irregular heartbeats and difficulty breathing and frequent vomiting of blood.

As for 28-year-old Rayan he suffers from a constant headache and joint pains and uses a wheelchair to move.

He staged his hunger strike to protest an Israeli decision extending his administrative detention for an additional four months.

Rayan who is being held in Ofer jail was kidnapped from his home in Beit Duqqu village northwest of Occupied Jerusalem on December 3 2021 and soon later an Israeli military court ordered his detention administratively for six months.
